METHODS OF MAYHEM -A Public Disservice Announcement
A title like Public Mayhem isn't serious enough business for Tommy Lee and Methods Of Mayhem anymore.
See, that's what Lee was going to call the new Methods album, but he's changed his mind and the disc will now be called A Public Disservice Announcement. (At least he's picked an appropriate title?)
Methods Of Mayhem's sophomore release will be out sometime in May, though a specific day has not yet been decided.
A Public Disservice Announcement was recoded in a rather unorthodox manner. Lee and producer Scott Humphrey (Rob Zombie, Andrew W.K.) and a team of other people uploaded parts of each song onto ThePublicRecord.com for people to download and add their own parts and submit them for possible inclusion on the record. Lee listened to every part and picked his favourites, and each player will get credit on the album.
"This really was one of the most incredible experiences I've had making a record, other than the first time I made a record — because there's nothing quite like popping your cherry!" Lee said, according to Blabbermouth.net.
"This record was the craziest thing ever. Parts were sent in from all over the world by people wanting to participate in the first once-in-a-lifetime global collaboration. It was insane, dude!"
No track listing for A Public Disservice Announcement has been revealed yet, but its first single, "Time Bomb," should come out sometime this month.
Lee began Methods Of Mayhem in 1999 after leaving Motley Crue. It was originally supposed to be a collaborative project with rapper TiLo (who has since left the group), but grew to include then former Jane's Addiction members Chris Chaney and Stephen Perkins and Beastie Boys DJ Mix Master Mike.
Methods Of Mayhem's 1999 self-titled album featured guest appearances from Fred Durst, Kid Rock, Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, The Crystal Method and Lil Kim, among others. The group split in 2000, but reunited last year with a new lineup.
Lee rejoined Motley Crue in 2004 and continues to play with the band.
